Stamping Sunday Blog Hop ~ Soft Pastels Techniques with Crane of Fortune
Hi and welcome to Mitosu Crafts UK. It’s Jay Soriano here with the Stamping Sunday design team blog hop with the theme of Soft Pastels. I am sharing 2 cards using different Soft Pastels techniques featuring the Crane Of Fortune Bundle from the Mini Catalogue.
The Stamping Sunday design team are a group of independent Stampin’ Up! demonstrators around the world. We share themed card ideas and papercraft inspirations every 2nd Sunday of the month. Do make sure you check out the rest of the Design Team’s creative projects from the links at the end of this post.
Soft Pastels Assortment
Expand your colouring repertoire with the Soft Pastels Assortment! These easy-to-use chalk pastels work with a variety of colouring tools like sponge daubers, blending brushes, Blender Pens and Water Painters. They allow you to play around to find different techniques that works for you or your project. It can be messy with chalk dusts or use with the correct tools to keep your craft table clean.
Soft Pastels Pouncing & Blending Techniques
For my first card, I stamped the flower image using Versamark ink on Basic White card. I then used the spatula end of the Take Your Pick tool to scrape the Poppy Parade pastel and cover the image with chalk dust. To spread the the dust evenly, I pounced with the Blending Brushes until the image is completely covered. I then scraped Daffodil Delight colour around the image, blended in a circular motion to add a soft halo. Once happy with the image, I spritz rubbing alcohol (70%) all over the card and dried using a Heat Tool before constructing the card front.
3 Soft Pastels Techniques in 1 Card
I wanted to see how the chalk pastels would work on coloured card so I played around with Craft White Pigment Ink, Versamark and Heat & Stick Powder. The one I used for the topper below was actually the simplest one with just the image stamped in Craft White Ink on Real Red card. I then used the same pouncing technique as above to cover with Daffodil Delight colour. The pastels didn’t completely cover the image as some areas dried quicker. Which I didn’t mind as it gave a 2 tone look to the topper.
You can colour cardstock or embossed cards straight with the pastel sticks. I used the Splatters 3D Embossing Folder on the Basic Black panel and simply rubbed the Poppy Parade chalk pastel on top to highlight the raised areas. Again, I fixed the chalk on the panel with isopropyl alcohol (70%).
The 3rd technique I applied the Soft Pastels is with Sponge Daubers. This technique gives a very soft and light colouring to your image, or for my card, a die cut element from Good Fortune Dies. I kept the chalk in the housing and rubbed a Sponge Dauber on top. So little colour actually transferred on the dauber hence the soft colouring.
There are other ways you can blend, add or even mix with the soft pastels for your cardmaking. I hope you enjoyed these cards with Soft Pastels and Good Fortune Bundle.
Thanks again for stopping by. Until next time, BYEEEEE!

Love your cards Jay!!! The second one in particular is amazing. I’ve got to try that technique with the white craft ink. And highlighting the black dry embossed layer is brilliant!!!
