Painted Poppies and Faux Layering

Welcome to Mitosu Crafts UK, thanks for stopping by. It’s Jay Soriano here with a card idea for The Spot creative challenge using Painted Poppies stamp set.

The Spot Creative Challenge

The Spot design team creates Stampin Up inspirations for a weekly card making challenge every Tuesday. It’s a Photo Inspiration this week, so use the below image to inspire your project. It can be the layout, flowers, colour combination, occasion or whatever comes to mind when looking at the photo.

Faux Layering with Painted Poppies

I took the flowers and colours from the photo inspiration as a starting point for my card today. Wanting to keep the layers to a minimum, I decided to create a card with faux layering. Faux Layering can be achieved by masking certain areas of your project, so I created masks for the poppies using sticky notes before starting.

I stamped on Thick Whisper White cardbase in Blackberry Bliss, placing a mask every time I stamped another poppy. The row of poppies design was inked up using the Marker To Stamp technique with Basic Black Stampin’ Write Marker then stamped on the card front.

I painted the poppies with Blackberry Bliss, Rich Razzleberry and Blushing Bride using Aqua Painters. Then spread Soft Sea Foam in the smaller rows of poppies. Be careful not to over saturate the card base as this will warp it.

Masking and Sponging

I repositioned the masks on the flowers again to add another faux layer. A rectangular sticky note was used to cover the card centre. I then sponged the edges in Garden Green and Granny Apple Green with Sponge Daubers.

The small splatter design was then stamped around the painted poppies in Soft Sea Foam before taking off the flower masks.

One Poppy Fix Layer

I made a huge smudge on one of the poppy on the card so I ended up doing another to cover my mistake. Before adhering the focal flower, I added a strip of Blackberry Bliss card. One poppy fix later, I was happier as the error actually enhanced the layout of the card!

I added the sentiment from Ornate Thanks, stamped in Blackberry Bliss then the Gingham Gala Adhesive- Backed Sequins. To finish the card, I pierced the card spine twice and tied the Rich Razzleberry Nature’s Twine.
